Dental Check Ups & Exams

Our dental check ups (or oral exams) are carried out by your dentist so that they can meet with you and help maintain good oral health. Having regular dental check ups is an important step in preventing future problems.

As a family dental practice, we are skilled at providing effective dental care for children and adults. We try to make Children’s check-ups as fun as possible and have a few tricks up our sleeve to make the children and adults smile during routine check ups.

We are often asked how frequently patients should visit the dentist for their dental check up. The answer depends on a range of factors, however as a general rule, most children and adults will benefit from a dental check up every six to nine months.

What does a routine dental exam involve?

DURING A TYPICAL DENTAL CHECK-UP, YOUR DENTIST IS LIKELY TO BE SUPPORTED BY A DENTAL NURSE. YOUR DENTIST WILL:

  • Have a quick chat with you. They’ll be keen to understand how you’ve been since your last visit

  • Read your records to familiarise themselves with you, whilst checking your x-rays, if you've had them, taking a fresh x-ray if necessary

  • Check the health of your teeth and gums and for children, check that the teeth are developing normally

  • Check the bite to see how your top and bottom teeth fit together

  • Check for any signs of oral cancer.

  • Talk to you about any lifestyle changes that you’d like to make, for example, smoking cessation, and ensure that any questions that you have are answered.
